Oommen Chandy to head for Delhi to hold discussions

The veteran leader had on Thursday pointed out that even organizational elections were due at the national level.

Thiruvananthapuram: Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will leave for Delhi soon to hold discussions with the high command on the organizational matters.

The decision comes in the wake of AICC in charge of Kerala, Mukul Wasnik’s two rounds of talks with the former chief minister and request to come to Delhi for holding negotiations. Earlier in the day Mr Chandy had stated that any directive from high command on holding talks on organizational issues was binding on him and he would hold discussions whenever called.

Mr Chandy, however, said he would not attend PAC meet but if leadership summoned him for discussions then he was bound abide by that direction.

The former chief minister stuck to his earlier decision to skip the PAC meeting reportedly due to leadership’s failure to give a concrete assurance on holding organizational polls in the state. “I am not someone who changes his stand on an hourly basis,” he told reporters to a question on his decision to skip the PAC meeting scheduled for Saturday.

The veteran leader had on Thursday pointed out that even organizational elections were due at the national level.

Chandy has kept off all crucial party meetings to protest against the manner in which DCC presidents were appointed in the state recently. His group had received a rough deal during the appointment of DCC chiefs.

While the AICC in charge of state Mukul Wasnik had spoken to Chandy over phone twice to sort out the issues, the latter declined to attend the PAC meeting. The central leadership is yet to accept his demand for organizational elections in the state.

However, he had responded positively to the central leadership’s move to discuss organizational manner in an open manner. The high command is hopeful of mollifying Chandy.
