In a Blow to Congress, Jana\'s Nomination Papers Rejected

Hyderabad: The Election Commission on Monday rejected the nomination papers filed by senior leader K. Jana Reddy for Nagarjunasagar on several grounds. His son, , has also filed his papers.

According to sources, the returning officers had rejected 625 of 2554 nominations till 9.15 pm on Monday. The remaining 2388 nominations are still under scrutiny by the ROs.

Even though a complaint was filed against Ch. Malla Reddy on his education qualification, the returning officer (RO) accepted his two sets of nominations. The RO rejected 46 nominations in Medchal constituency and accepted 81 nominations.

Around 57 nominations were filed in Karimnagar constituency, of which 10 have been and the scrutiny process is still underway. Quthbullapur seat saw rejection of 11 of 50 nominations that were filed. In Nagarjunasagar, 57 nominations had been filed and the RO rejected 13 nominations, including that of Jana Reddy.

Incidentally, all 43 nominations were accepted in Sircilla while 12 of 49 nominations were rejected at Alair. In Amberpet, the RO rejected eight nominations. The RO rejected one nomination and cleared 37 in Andole constituency, while in Armoor six nominations were rejected and 37 nominations accepted. In Asifabad, of the 33 nominations, the RO rejected three nominations, while at Bahadurpura, a total 24 nominations were filed and the RO rejected five of them. In Dubbaka, eight of 38 nominations were rejected, while in Charminar, of the 31 nominations that were filed and nine were rejected.

In Mahbubnagar, 43 nominations were filed and the RO rejected five nominations.
