Rebel TRS men file nomination

On the first day, a total of 48 nominations were filed by the TRS, BJP and independent candidates.

Hyderabad: Filing of nominations for the Assembly elections started on Monday by administering a shock to the ruling TRS.

On the first day, a total of 48 nominations were filed by the TRS, BJP and independent candidates. In some constituencies, Congress leaders also filled nominations although the announcement of the list by the high command is still awaited.

In the Uppal Assembly constituency, the TRS had given the ticket to Mr N. Subhash Reddy. TRS leader Nandikonda Srinivasa Reddy filed his nomination as a rebel candidate. Before filing the nomination, Mr Srinivasa Reddy held a rally in the constituency with TRS flags and with Mr Chandrasekhar Rao’s photograph. He appealed to the people to vote for him as he had fought for a separate Telangana state.

TS BJP chief K. Laxman also filed the nomination papers on Monday. Among the 48 nominations filed, nine were from the TRS, 10 BJP, six Congress and two from the TD.

TRS workers protest over Khairatabad

The TRS is also witnessing the heat of dissidents. On Monday TRS workers in large numbers staged a protest in front of Telangana Bhavan demanding the Khairatabad ticket to party constituency incharge M. Govardhan Reddy. There is speculation that ticket may be given to former minister Danam Nagendar.

Elsewhere, Ms Shankaramma, the mother of Telangana martyr Srikanthachary, threatened to commit suicide if she was not nominated from Huzurnagar. She alleged that TRS leaders are were encouraging an NRI, Mr Saidi Reddy, by taking money. If he was nominated she would commit suicide and caretaker minister G. Jagadish Reddy would be held responsible for this, she said.
