Congress sees red over pink ballot papers
Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee slammed the Election Commission alleging that it was taking a decision in favour of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti by introducing pink ballot papers. Congress leaders have also written a letter demanding withdrawal of the decision.
TPCC general secretary Dr Sravan Dasoju said, “If the EC wants the victory of TRS, then it can unanimously declare the victor as TRS without conducting elections. The decision of the EC to come up with a pink ballot paper is nothing but a decision taken in favour of the TRS.”
“This is not the first time that the EC is coming up with such a decision. Earlier, they thought of establishing pink polling booths. The de-listing of voters was also done in favour of the TRS. Is the EC not aware that pink color represents the TRS,” Dr Dasoju asked.
Speaking to mediapersons at the Congress state headquarters, he added that the party had written to the Election Commission of India demanding that the pink ballot papers be withdrawn in Telangana state. “There is every possibility that voters would get influenced to vote in favour of the TRS, which is nothing but a violation of democracy. The repeated acts of the EC are unconstitutional and favouring the TRS, and we are skeptical of there being any possibility of conducting elections in a fair and free manner in Telangana if this continues.”
