TRS favours Penchikalpet for KCR's public meet
Hyderabad: The TRS is searching for a suitable location bordering Huzurabad for holding a huge public meeting that will be addressed by party chief and Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao for the upcoming assembly by-poll. The Election Commission is yet to give permission for holding public meetings with gatherings of above 1,000 in poll-bound Huzurabad due to Covid-linked restrictions.
The TRS is examining Penchikalpeta village in neighbouring Husnabad constituency, which is 3km from Huzurabad, for the meeting.
TRS leaders and cadre in Huzurabad want the CM to hold a public meeting either on Oct 26 or 27 to boost the party's prospects in the bypoll. While the polling is on October 30, the EC has extended the silence period before polling to 72 hours against the usual 48 hours, as part of the Covid restrictions.
The campaigning for the bypoll will end at 5pm on October 27. TRS leaders and cadre prefer CM's meeting to be held on October 26 as it would be difficult to complete the public meeting by 5pm on October 27.
TRS sources said Penchikalpet village falls in Hanamkonda district. The EC has clarified that the code will be applicable only in Huzurabad constituency. Besides, the village is located abutting the Karimnagar-Warangal highway and a 10-acre vacant land is available on one side of the road. This is suitable for a large public meeting, while a 5-acre plot on the other side can be used for parking.
The TRS first sought permission from EC to hold the CM's meeting in Huzurabad but permission has not come.
