AICC constitutes 4 committees for Chhattisgarh Assembly polls, Assembly speaker Charan Das Mahant to head campaign panel

Raipur: Assembly speaker Charan Das Mahant, considered a loyalist of Congress veteran Digvijay Singh, has been appointed chairman of the party’s election campaign committee constituted by AICC for the poll-bound Chhattisgarh.

The septuagenarian OBC leader will head the 74-member poll campaign committee constituted by the AICC for the year-end assembly polls in Chhattisgarh.

Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, deputy chief minister T S Singh Deo and a host of ministers in the state government are among the prominent leaders who formed the part of the jumbo committee.

This was the second successive assembly elections in the state; Mr Mahant is going to head the campaign committee of the party.

AICC general secretary in-charge of Chhattisgarh affairs Kumari Selja will head the seven-member core committee of the party constituted for the ensuing assembly polls in the state.

Other members of the committee are chief minister Baghel, deputy chief minister Mr Singh Deo, Chhattisgarh Congress president Deepak Baij, Mr Mahant, state ministers Tamradhwaj Sahu and Shiv Dahariya.

State parliamentary affairs minister Ravindra Choubey will head the 15-member communications committee constituted by AICC for the Chhattisgarh polls.

Prominent among other members include Vinod Verma, advisor to chief minister Mr Baghel and state party general secretary R P Singh.

Both of them were currently under the radar of the enforcement directorate (ED) in different cases.

AICC constituted four poll panels for Chhattisgarh for the upcoming assembly polls late on Monday evening.
