BRS burying Hyderabad's Liberation History, says Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad: BJP state president and Union minister G. Kishan Reddy on Tuesday called the Congress and BRS “accused no. 1 and accused no. 2” in trying to bury Hyderabad’s liberation history, alleging that both parties were controlled by the AIMIM.

“This is resulting in them kowtowing to the MIM and refusing to recognise September 17 as the day when Hyderabad was liberated from the rule of the Nizams,” he said.

Kishan Reddy accused the Congress of suppressing facts for decades, claiming the BRS also followed suit. He recollected Hyderabad’s liberation on September 17, 1948, and it becoming part of the Indian Union following the police action led by the then Union home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

“The MIM, which was set up in the 1940s, joined the Razakars led by religious bigot Kasim Razvi, and with the blessings of the Nizam, attacked Hindus. And after the 1948 police action, during which the Indian Army defeated the Nizam’s army, Razvi left India for Pakistan and handed over MIM to the Owaisi family. Ever since, the Owaisis worked to keep people in the dark about the history of Hyderabad’s liberation. The Owaisis arm-twisted the Congress in unified Andhra Pradesh, and after Telangana was formed, the BRS government,” Kishan Reddy said.

He said that it was the BJP that had, for the past 35 years, been demanding Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations but the then Congress and now BRS governments refused because they are controlled by the Owaisis. Despite the facts, the BRS government and the MIM say September 17 is ‘Integration Day’, while Congress calls it a ‘Merger Day’.

“In which world is freeing a land and its people through military action understood as integration or merger? KCR and Congress must answer this question,” Kishan Reddy said.

“KCR repeatedly demanded, when in the Opposition in united AP, that Liberation Day must be celebrated. What happened to his demand now?” Kishan Reddy asked.
