BJP urges CEC to ensure error free TS voters lists

Hyderabad: The Telangana state BJP has urged the Chief Election Commissioner to instruct the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana state to pay attention to its previous complaints over irregularities in voters rolls in the state and take corrective steps and ensure that when final electoral rolls are published, there are no bogus voters, and eligibile voters are allotted polling booths as per norms.

In a representation to the CEC in New Delhi, the BJP said the Election Commission has very clearly and comprehensively defined the goals, tasks and
processes to ensure an error free electoral roll. “Despite such clarity, the State Electoral Officer & ERO have neither complied with the tasks nor the processes and hence, the state of electoral rolls continue to be very flawed and defective. While it has occurred across all Assembly constituencies, these defects are glaring in urban Assembly constituencies,” the party leaders Marri Shashidhar Reddy, Maheshwar Reddy, former MLA Ketineni Sarala, K. Pavan Kumar Bharadwaj, and E. Ajay Kumar, said in their representation.

They said in the past in 2018, the then GHMC commissioner who later became
the chief secretary, Somesh Kumar, was instrumental in making some 20 lakh
voters disappear from the lists on instructions of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. And now there are hundreds of voters in a single house number, which is just one of the problems plaguing the voters lists in Telangana. They urged the CEC to take immediate steps to ensure an error free voters list in Telangana state.
