All Eyes On BJP-JD(S) Alliance in Karnataka

The strategic move, if materialized, would necessitate the BJP ceding at least 4 to 5 seats to the JD(S)

Mangaluru: As the political landscape in Karnataka undergoes a series of intriguing shifts, the state BJP unit is positioning itself strategically for the 2024 Parliament elections.

In the 2019 polls, the BJP demonstrated its dominance by securing 25 out of 28 seats. The decisive victory emphasised the party's strong foothold in the state. Notwithstanding the setback in the recent assembly election, the BJP's confidence is anchored on the perceived 'Modi wave' that continues to resonate with voters.

The unwavering belief in the party's appeal has ignited a spirited competition to get party tickets

However, beyond the internal dynamics of ticket distribution, a major development looms large on the horizon - the potential BJP-JD(S) alliance in Karnataka. The strategic move, if materialized, would necessitate the BJP ceding at least 4 to 5 seats to the JD(S), recalibrating the party's parliamentary aspirations to around 23-24 seats.

"The recent Assembly elections saw the party's central leadership advocating for a 30 percent overhaul in candidate selection. Should this model be replicated in the forthcoming parliamentary elections, we can expect a shift in candidate selection strategy for 6-8 constituencies. This may pave the way for a fresh cadre of candidates, signaling the party's adaptability to changing political dynamics," a BJP official told Deccan Chronicle.

"The party is poised to adopt a rigorous candidate selection process in Karnataka, emphasizing a comprehensive assessment of each contender's suitability and winnability," he added.

Sources said that the party is inclined to retain the young and fresh faces who contested on the BJP ticket in the previous election, indicating a preference for continuity.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, all eyes will be on the BJP's forthcoming decisions, which are poised to set the tone for a fiercely contested 2024 Parliament election in Karnataka.
