Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami came down heavily on Tuesday on DMK working president M.K. Stalin and the sacked AIADMK (Amma) deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran. He asserted that his government could not be brought down by them.
Speaking at the general council meeting convened by his faction of AIADMK (Amma), he said that his government had already proved its majority in the Assembly and could not be toppled. He claimed that a total of 2,130 general council members had attended the meeting and attendance at the meeting, was about 98 per cent. He also vowed to restore the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol and win all the elections that the party faced in the future.
Describing the general council meeting as historic, he said it was held despite the expectations of some people that it would not be held. The court itself had granted justice and allowed the meeting, he said, referring to the court’s interim ruling that all decisions taken at the meeting would be null and void if the court invalidated it.
He said that Dhinakaran was removed from the basic membership of the party by former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and he had no locus standi to call Palaniswami and other leaders of his group as betrayers. When Dhinakaran himself was not a member of the party, how he could remove others from their posts, he asked.
O. Panneerselvam, who spoke in the general council meeting said no one could divide them and they would remain united.
