During bifurcation, the role of Mr Singh had become controversial many times.

Vijayawada: AICC general secretary, AP Congress affairs incharge and MP Digvijay Singh said he had no role in the state bifurcation. While addressing the AP Congress general body meeting on Tuesday, Mr Singh said he did what the party high command directed him to do and conveyed the opinion of the high command to state leaders as it was and said he had special concern and respect for AP.

He expressed his surprise at the amount of money spent by the TD and YSRC in Nandyal by-polls. He criticised that they had spent state-level election expenditure only on Nandyal bypolls. On preparing roadmap to strengthen the party for future, he asked AP leaders to come to Delhi at the earliest to discuss it with Mr Rahul Gandhi. During bifurcation, the role of Mr Singh had become controversial many times.

He gave statements in many situations which provoked anger among the AP public against him. Even many Congress leaders had condemned his comments and gave open statements about hurting the sentiments of Andhra people. Later, the Congress was swept out in 2014 elections.
