PERAMBALUR: The State CPI secretary R. Mutharasan said though the Tamil Nadu Government has decided to open the shutters of the Mettur reservoir on Tuesday, it is a million-dollar question whether water will the reach tail-end areas, as the state government has not de-silted water bodies and irrigation canals despite several crore rupees having been allocated for this purpose.
Addressing a press conference at Perambalur on Monday, he expressed concern over Chief Minister Edapapadi K. Palaniswami having not visited the rain-hit Nilgiris district and announced any relief from the government to the affected people.
The CPI leader urged Mr. Palaniswami to visit the rain-hit Nilgiris dt immediately and arrange adequate relief measures for the affected people there.
To a question, he said that the CM should come out with the real reason for expelling his cabinet colleague and former Information Technology minister, Manikandan.
He charged the Tamil Nadu Government with simply being a mute spectator to the Central Government’s anti-Tamil Nadu attitude. He demanded that the government suitably compensate the girl students who had committed suicide over the NEET examination issue.
The three-day CPI state council meeting will be held at Thoothukudi from August 14 and party national secretary D. Raja and others will participate in the meeting, he added.
