PM Modi is committed to Lankan Tamils' welfare too, says Pon Radhakrishnan

The Central Minister said this was part of the Centre's housing project to build 14,000 houses in Jaffna.

Chennai: Union Minister of State for Finance and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan has asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to the welfare of the Indian origin living in other countries including the Tamils in Sri Lanka.

This loyalty could be seen in the dedication of houses built with help of Indian government for the Tamils in Sri Lanka, he said. Referring to handing over of 400 houses to the Tamils in the island nation by Mr. Modi, the Central Minister said this was part of the Centre’s housing project to build 14,000 houses in Jaffna.

Meanwhile, BJP state general secretary Vanathi Srinivasan has claimed that Congress president Rahul Gandhi was not the lone leader for whom “proper security was not provided" when he visited the Rajaji Hall, here on Aug.8 to pay his last respects to DMK leader M. Karunanidhi.

“Not only Rahul Ganghi but also for others including Union Ministers, providing security has been a difficult task. I too had been there along with the Central Ministers. The police could have avoided that situation. After the Prime Minister left the venue, atleast for three hours the situation had gone out of control,” she alleged and insisted that the police take “responsibility” for the “system collapse leading to a stampede-like situation.”
