Will Congress MLA Ramesh Chennithala resign? asks Kodiyeri Balakrishnan

Mr Balakrishnan said that the LDF will expand the Left alliance nationally.

Kottayam: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Wednesday questioned Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala’s disinterest in not seeking the resignation of a Congress MLA who has close connections with actor Dileep.

“The government has a strong commitment that it will bring the accused before law even if he is a bigshot,” the CPM state secretary told reporters in Kottayam. He said that the Opposition leader is ashamed that the case is reaching a logical conclusion.

The CPM state secretary said that his party and the CPI are maintaining good relationship and the attempts of senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy to create a rift inside the LDF will not yield results.

Mr Balakrishnan said that the LDF will expand the Left alliance nationally. He said that the CPM had aligned with the Kerala Congress (M) to oppose the Congress.

“However, we haven't thought about bringing the KC(M) into the LDF fold right now. We will consider including Janata Dal (United) in the LDF if they come out of the UDF,” the CPM state secretary said.

Referring to the anti Muslim statement made by former DGP T.P. Senkumar, Mr Kodiyeri said that it was not proper on the part of a person who was in the position of a DGP to make a statement intended to cause communal divisions.

The statement of Mr Senkumar should be verified and if a case needed to be registered that should be done, he said.
