Edappadi K. Palaniswami, MK Stalin raise by-poll campaign heat

The voters should consider May 19 by-polls as crucial to end the AIADMK regime in the State, Stalin said.

Chennai: With a week to go for the by-election to the four Assembly constituencies in the State, the electioneering has intensified. Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, ‘star’ campaigner for AIADMK, went hammer and tongs at the DMK president M. K. Stalin who reiterated that the ‘countdown’ for the AIADMK government ‘to go’ has begun.

Both the parties have high hopes on the four Assembly seats of Thirupparankundram, Sulur, Ottapidaram and Aravakurichi for which the by-election would be held on May 19, besides 18 other Assembly seats which simultaneously went to polls with the Lok Sabha poll on April 18.

While the poll battle is prestigious for the AIADMK that is keen on improving its tally in the Tamil Nadu Assembly to consolidate its majority, the DMK hopes to become numerically stronger in the House to claim a simple majority.

Training his guns on DMK chief M. K. Stalin, Mr. Palaniswami said the DMK leader was making tall promises, as he is fully aware that his party will not come to power. Voting the AIADMK would mean voting for more development while a vote for the DMK would only go waste, he reasoned.

“The government under Edappadi Palaniswami is anti-people. The Chief Minister is not bothered about the people or their welfare. He has to be sent packing home along with the BJP government at the centre. The voters should consider May 19 by-polls as crucial to end the AIADMK regime in the State,” Stalin said.
