EC disqualifies 62 persons from elections

Majority of the candidates among those disqualified are independent candidates.

Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India on Tuesday issued orders disqualifying 62 persons from contesting in the elections for a period of two and three years.

Majority of the candidates among those disqualified are independent candidates. The EC said that they have been disqualified for failing to submit their previous election expenses under Section 10(A) of the Representation of the People's Act 1951.

Mr Katikaneni Madhusudhan Rao who had contested on BJP ticket from Kollapur and Mr Sridhar Reddy Velumula and Mr Pesala Jayadeva Reddy contested from Siricilla and Dharmapuri constituencies respectively on the YSR Congress tickets in the 2014 elections.

As many as 15 candidates were disqualified till June 8, 2020 and 30 candidates were disqualified till Jan 8, 2021 and rest of them was disqualified till Jan 7, 2022 from contesting in the elections.

Meanwhile, chief electoral officer for Telangana state Rajath Kumar issued a statement that 4,098 wall writings, 29,526 posters, 975 cutouts, 11,485 banners, 3,498 flags and 7,038 other materials have been confiscated across 33 districts in the state.
