Raichur: This was one Congress leader who got too close for comfort. Congress MP from Raichur B.V. Naik’s wife Padmavathi is alleged to have slapped the president of the Raichur District Mahila Congress, Nirmala Benna for "meeting" her husband too often.
According to sources, Mrs Benne was obtaining the signature of the MP at the latter’s office here on Saturday when Mrs Padmavathi entered the office. She turned furious on finding the Mahila Congress Chief with her husband in the office and slapped her twice.
Despite Mrs Padmavathi’s warning to Mrs Benne not to meet her husband and to keep away from him, the latter has been meeting him often, said sources. Further Mrs Padmavathi is said to have warned the Mahila Congress chief to stay from her husband’s office.
Mr Naik was reportedly stunned by the conduct of his wife, but did nothing to question her on why she had assaulted the Mahila wing chief. Some leaders from the native taluk of the MP- Deodurga- who were present, were equally stunned and were annoyed that the MP did not raise his voice against his wife and preferred to remain silent.
Meanwhile, in an attempt to save face, Mrs Benne denied that the MP’s wife had slapped her. “She objected to my meeting the MP and warned me”, she claimed.
