Allies sense uncertainty without V M Sudheeran
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Leaderships of UDF allies Muslim League and Janata Dal (United) have expressed strong displeasure over KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran's decision to quit in a dramatic way. The Muslim League, which had defended Mr Sudheeran in his strong stand in liquor policy, is now peeved that he did not bother to take the party into confidence before deciding to call it quits. The party leadership is apprehensive of the LDF government's move to amend the liquor policy and wonders whether the other top Congress leaders will take a similar strong stand as that of Mr Sudheeran on the issue. They are also apprehensive of coordinating the election campaigning coinciding with the Malappuram by-election scheduled on April 12.
The JDU leadership which met in Kozhikode on Sunday felt that Mr Sudheeran's decision to quit is an internal issue of the Congress but it will leave a dent in the UDF image in the long run. The party maintained that the front has been going through a lean phase after the Assembly elections. The party has always been demanding in the UDF meetings that the internal bickering within the Congress be amicably settled. JDU state secretary Shaikh P. Haris said the resignation has created uncertainty in the front. “The current circumstances never demanded to have the resignation of Mr Sudheeran,” he said.
