Tollywood star Pawan Kalyan to quit acting and enter into full time politics

Hyderabad: Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan has said that he wants to quit films and enter politics, triggering speculation on his plans in the backdrop of strained political relations between the BJP and the Telugu Desam, the beneficiaries of his campaign in the 2014 elections.

He told a website, “I do films to sustain myself, so I plan (to make) two to three films. After that I am going to give it up. I feel that joining politics is a bigger responsibility.” The actor said he had been considering it for long. “The idea has been in my mind from my childhood,” he said.

The actor, who had announced the Jana Sena before the 2014 elections and secured official registration last year, has largely left the party untouched.

He has not strengthened it organisationally, nor attempted to increase its reach. “His announcement that he will enter politics after completing two to three films means it will be before the 2019 elections. As a film producer, I know that each film takes a year to complete,” said a Tollywood producer.
