Join PWA, why float new front: Thiruma to Captain Vijayakanth

Even as PWA awaits response from Tamil Manila Congress for its invitation to join the front.

Chennai: People’s Welfare Alliance comprising MDMK, CPI(M), CPI and VCK has urged DMDK to reconsider its decision to float a new alliance headed by it and instead join their alliance, which had won the goodwill of people.

“We have urged DMDK chief Vijayakanth to reconsider his decision to float a new alliance headed by it. We have already formed an alliance and campaigned across the state for eight months. Instead of forming a new alliance, we want him to join the PWA which has earned the goodwill the people to root out DMK and AIADMK,” VCK chief Thol. Thirumavalavan told Deccan Chronicle.

A decision was taken at the meeting on Friday of MDMK general secretary Vaiko, CPI (M) state secretary G. Ramakrishnan, CPI state secretary R. Mutharasan and Mr Thirumavalavan to renew the invitation to DMDK join their alliance.
“Now we are awaiting Mr Vijayakanth’s reply. Based on which we will make our next move,” he said.

When asked whether PWA would agree to name Mr Vijayakanth as its chief ministerial if he joins their alliance, Mr Thirumavalavan said that the four party leaders had taken a consensus decision not to name CM candidate before the election.

“If a fifth party joins our alliance, the views of the new party would also be discussed and appropriate decision would be taken,” he explained. Sources in PWA said that informal talks were going on between the PWA leaders and DMDK.

Even as PWA awaits response from Tamil Manila Congress for its invitation to join the front, sources said that the talks are on with some political parties including IJK and some social groups to join their alliance.

Meanwhile, PWA leaders, in a joint statement, urged the workers of four constituent parties to form a 40-member panel for every booth in the state between March 15 and March 20.

They also urged the panel members should go on a door-to-door campaign, hand over copies of the PWA’s common minimum programme and intensify the campaign among the people from March 21 to 31.
