Depute honest, efficient officers to Special Enforcement Bureau: Jagan

He directed the SEB officials to conduct reviews regularly and said all the required infra would be provided

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy held a review meeting here on Friday on the performance of the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) and said there should be no scope for corruption in sand and liquor supply and officials must take stringent action against those responsible for illegal sand mining and liquor trafficking.

During the review meeting held at the camp office, the chief minister said no one responsible for the loss of revenue to the state through illegal activities and corruption will be spared, even at the organisational level. Action must be taken as soon as information is received on such activities.

The CM said the SEB should organise regular raids and stop smuggling in of liquor in vehicles from neighbouring states. “Depute honest and efficient officers to the Special Enforcement Bureau and ensure better results in the next 15 days.”

He directed the SEB officials to conduct reviews regularly and said all the required infrastructure would be provided for the officials to do their job in an effective manner. The CM also promised incentives to SEB staff.

The officials briefed the CM on the performance of the Special Enforcement Bureau ever since its formation on May 16, 2020. After this step was initiated to curb illicit liquor flow, 79,632 cases were registered, 4,85,009 litres of alcohol was seized, 12,766 litres of beer confiscated, 4,54,658 litres of country liquor seized, 1,12,70,123 litters of jaggery wash destroyed, 2,85,142 kg of black jaggery impounded, 22,715 vehicles seized and cases registered against 240 government employees are involved in irregularities.

As for sand, 7,244 cases were registered, 4,79,692 tonnes of sand seized, 9,689 vehicles impounded and cases registered against 22 government employees. Cases were registered against 82 policemen in relation to irregularities about sand and liquor supply. Also, 1,00,979kg of ganja was seized, 90,97,628 packets of ghutka impounded and 1,120 red sander logs seized apart from cash of Rs 4.92 crore by way of raids on poker camps.

DGP Goutam Sawang, revenue special chief secretary Rajat Bhargav and SEB commissioner Vineeth Brijlal were among the officials present.
