Chaos continues in Koovathur
Chennai: Unidentified thugs, who are believed to be supporters AIADMK MLAs staying at the Golden Bay resort in Koovathur, continued with their high-handed behaviour on Sunday as well, while the policemen posted on the spot turned a nelson eye to the repeated complaints of media men and local residents.
The unruly men, who acted as if the entire Koovathur on ECR and nearby hamlets are under their control, had snatched mobile phones from media persons on Sunday afternoon. Press persons had reached Koovathur, nearly 80 km away from Chennai, to cover the event of AIADMK general secretary visiting the resort on Sunday for an interaction with the MLAs staying there. Only after the media persons protested were the mobile phones returned to them.
Local residents had been accusing the henchmen of MLAs staying in the luxury resort of threatening them since Wednesday night. The MLAs reached the resort on Wednesday night after attending the legislators’ meet at the party headquarters in Royapettah in the morning that day.
The villagers had been accusing unidentified men with preventing them from using the main road between the village and the ECR and also stopped from venturing into fishing in the backwaters.
The men who have taken over the villages had allegedly switched off all the streetlights since Wednesday night. Police had been staying away from the tussles between the villagers and the unidentified men for the last few days.
