HD Devegowda: Won't Contest Lok Sabha Polls at 92; Kumaraswamy's Fate Depends on Modi

Former PM Devegowda rules out contesting, says son Kumaraswamy awaits Modi's decision.

Bengaluru: Asserting that he would not contest the ensuing Lok Sabha polls considering he is 92 years, however national president of Janata Dal Secular and former Prime Minister H.D. Devegowda on Saturday stated that his son and former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy abides by the words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kumaraswamy fighting ensuing Lok Sabha polls depends on what Prime Minister Narendra Modi decides.

Currently, Kumaraswamys an MLA representing Channapatna Assembly seat in Ramnagar district. JDS is now a partner of Bharatiya Janata Party led National Democratic Alliance and JDS-BJP are fighting Lok Sabha polls together in Karnataka, speculations are rife that Kumarasamy would contest the Lok Sabha election from the Mandya Lok Sabha seat, a JDS bastion.

If it comes to field Kumaraswamy in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, Devegowda said then party leaders would discuss and decide on it. “Nobody knows what plans Modi has for Kumaraswamy,” Devegowda reacted to a query on reports that Kumaraswamy would be made a Central minister and he said he was unaware of it. The issue of making Kumaraswamy a Central minister has not taken place before him.

Continuing on the topic, Devegowda said “The action plans of Modi will not be known to his colleagues until it happens” and stated that instances are there that Modi has made a first time MP a Central minister.

On his grandson Prajwal Revanna’s renomination from Hassan, Devegowda said “Have no doubts on his contest” and Prime Minister Narendra Modi would bless Prajwal who is the sitting MP from Hassan Lok Sabha seat.

Devegowda said that he is happy to be a Rajya Sabha member and till has about two-and-half years as Rajya Sabha member and stated that “I can converse properly and memory has also been good,” Devegowda said he is fit enough to campaign for NDA nominees in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
