Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will adopt RK Nagar as his constituency for 'fantastic development' if the voters in the December 21 bypoll elect his BJP candidate, according to party state president Dr Tamilisai Sounderarajan.
"Let our Lotus bloom here and I assure you, PM Narendra Modi will adopt this constituency as his own", she declared while campaigning for her candidate Karu Nagarajan at Tondiarpet on Monday. It is not clear yet, whether the medical doctor had the clearance from the PMO to make her promise.
"You have voted for the Sun (DMK election symbol), nothing has happened. You have voted for the Two Leaves (ruling AIADMK's symbol) nothing happened either. Nothing is going to happen if you cast your vote for Pressure Cooker (election symbol of T.T.V. Dhinakaran, contesting as independent) and the Candle (symbol of Kalaikottudhayam Ka, the candidate fielded by film director-turned-politician Seeman's Naam Thamizhar Katchi) will get extinguished. Only lotus (BJP election symbol) will shine. I appeal to you to make the lotus bloom here. This will become the constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He will accept it because BJP has no MLAs in TN Assembly", she said.
With no member in the Assembly since 2006, the BJP is desperate to make its presence felt in the TN Assembly. "And so, the best they can do is to promise us the moon because they are not going to make in any case", said local trader Senthil Kumar with a wry smile after Tamilisai's modest caravan drove away.
Later, she led a BJP delegation to lodge a complaint with Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni about the "rampant distribution of cash for votes, other poll code violations by both the Dravidan majors". She wanted the CEO to take prompt action to ensure free and fair election in R. K. Nagar.
