Hyderabad: The Mahakutami took a small step forward in resolving seat sharing disputes with the alliance partners electing TJS chief M. Kodandaram as convener for the implementation of the common minimum programme.
Congress leaders said agreement had been reached on seat-sharing, and the list of constituencies would be announced on Monday. However, CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy insisted that the talks had not yielded a positive result. “From the beginning, the Congress has been asking us to adjust,” he said.
If their demand is not met, the CPI will contest from five seats, he said and added that party would negotiate with TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. A leader said the issue would be resolved on Sunday night.
Earlier, TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and AICC secretary Saleem Ahmed met Prof. Kodandaram and TS TD L. Ramana at the TJS headquarters. TPCC treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy and AICC secretary Srinivasan Krishnan met Mr Venkat Reddy.
“There may be friendly contests in a few constituencies. Except for some constituencies where there is pressure from aspirants, the high command is planning to announce the list,” he said. Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy told the media that Prof. Kodandaram would be the chairman for Common Minimum Programme.
“We will decide on the seats. The Mahakutami government will be formed after December 11. No need of any doubts on Mahakutami. We are all together and urging not to believe the speculation.”
He said Prof. Kodandaram had united all political parties to achieve statehood to Telangana and had played a crucial role in the formation of the state. He said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had cheated Prof. Kodandaram after assuming power.
“KCR is having a secret friendship with BJP and will go for parliamentary elections together. He is trying to cheat the people of Telangana again,” he said. Mr Ramana said, “Issues are common in families. But the Mahakutami is united and will go to the elections together.” -
After completing the discussion with the CPI, AICC secretary Srinivasan Krishnan said, “The discussions have yielded a positive result. Seat adjustments are not a big issue. The Mahakutami will form government.”
