Congress veterans want education minister Tanveer Sait's resignation

Senior Congress leader disclosed that for now, the party would defend Mr Sait but over the long term it would cause more harm than good.

Bengaluru: With many veteran Congress leaders former KPCC president B. Janardhan Poojary and former minister A.H. Vishwanath demanding primary and secondary education minister Tanveer Sait’s resignation, CM Siddaramaiah will find it difficult to shield his cabinet colleague.

Speaking to DC, a senior Congress leader disclosed that for now, the party would defend Mr Sait but over the long term it would cause more harm than good. “We are only eight days away from kick-starting our year-long Indira Gandhi's birth centenary celebrations on Nov. 19, which is originally planned to attract women and young voters ahead of the Assembly polls in 2018.Therefore, it is expected that the party central leaders might just issue directions to party state leaders soon to drop Mr Sait or convince him to resign," the leader added.

The leader said Bengaluru City development Minister, K.J. George, too had to resign from his post a couple of months ago on mere a statement on a local TV channel by deputy superintendent M. K. Ganapati who committed suicide later in the day.

"Mr Sait is actually caught on camera indulging in an immodest act by watching nude pictures. Therefore it looks like he may have to put in his papers soon,” the leader added.

The source added that leaders of Opposition parties would not let go of such an opportunity in such matters and they would this issue alive till scheduled legislature session in commencing in Belagavi on November 21.
