TS Govt Sends List of Candidates for Replacing Transferred Police Chiefs

Hyderabad: On the Election Commission of India’s orders, the state government on Thursday sent a shortlist of probable candidates for appointment as police commissioners and superintendents in Hyderabad, Nizamabad and Warangal.

Sources said that officers on the list included Jitender, a DG rank official serving as principal secretary of home, Sandeep Shandilya, TS Police Academy director, and K. Sreenivasa Reddy, additional DG, organisation.

The list was finalised in a meeting convened by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and attended by ministers K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao, Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari and Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar at Pragathi Bhavan on Thursday.

Speculation is rife among the IPS fraternity that CID chief Mahesh M. Bhagwat, who made his mark as Rachakonda police commissioner, and TSRTC CMD V.C. Sajjanar, under whom the encounter of alleged rapists in the Disha case took place, are in contention for the Hyderabad top cop post.

The government, in its list, also sought to give increased representation to women IPS officers, naming Soumya Mishra, Shika Goel and Swati Lakra, all ADG rank officers.
