Khammam: Protecting its own flock first from poachers is the main strategy of Congress party in Munugode by-elections. Essentially, the party wants to ensure that it retains its voter base of 2018 assembly general elections when it won the seat polling 97,239 votes, – comprising 48.9 percent of the total. There are 2.3 lakh voters in the seven mandals of Munugode constituency.
The Congress is touching each and every house that had voted for it in 2018. For this, it is taking the help of booth-level party leaders in distributing pamphlets to these voters, explaining the need for Congress to win the by-poll. The party is underlining how the common man has been hit by TRS government in Telangana and BJP rule at the centre.
However, when it comes to money, it is advising its voters to take the cash from both TRS and BJP but vote for the Congress.
The party has deputed to each mandal a senior leader, who will be assisted by two in-charge leaders in each of the seven mandals in Munugode constituency and the Choutuppal municipality. Each mandal has been divided into five clusters, with an in-charge for each cluster, which will have eight to 10 polling booths.
TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy is in-charge of Narayanapuram mandal, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka of Munugode, N. Utham Kumar Reddy Choutuppal, D Sridhar Babu Marriguda, Shabbir Ali Chanduru, V. Hanumantha Rao Gattuppal, Geeta Reddy Choutuppal municipality and Damodar Rajnarasimha Nampally mandal.
Congress will take its articulate booth-level workers from Munugode to the Bharat Jodo Yatra by Rahul Gandhi, which is expected to enter Telangana on October 26. CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said, “These workers will walk along with Rahul Gandhi and share their experiences with voters in the constituency that is going for by-poll.”
The party will also try to convince those who had voted for other parties to vote for the Congress candidate. Party workers will highlight to them the increasing prices of essential commodities, discrimination against “other people” and unstoppable corruption among TRS and BJP leaders.
