AK Antony calls it cheap politics

Thiruvananthapuram: Even while, the Congress lA war of words has erupted between the UDF and LDF leaders following the state government’s decision to file vigilance cases against all those who were found guilty by the solar commission.While the Congress leaders said the government was taking vengeance against its political opponents, the CPM leaders asked them to quit their public offices.

Congress working committee member A.K. Antony alleged that chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan was indulging in cheap politics by publishing the details of the solar commission report when the Vengara Assembly bypoll was progressing.

Mr Antony told reporters in New Delhi that Mr Vijayan’s action was politically motivated. “The LDF cannot weaken the Congress by putting its party leaders under a cloud,” he said.

KPCC president M.M. Hassan said the LDF government was taking vengeance against the UDF leaders. “The Congress was not afraid of any probe. The political affairs committee will meet to discuss the future course of action,” Mr Hassan said.

CPM leader V.S. Achuthanandan said Mr Oommen Chandy and other accused leaders should quit public life and apologise to the people as criminal cases have been filed against them. He asked the government to complete the probe in a time-bound manner. “All these offenders make up the state UDF leadership. Allowing such persons to continue in their posts is a challenge to the people,” he added.

CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan also asked the Congress leaders named in report to resign from office. “The decision is a reply to the allegation of secret understanding between the LDF and the UDF to end secretariat blockade during the solar strike,” he said.
