National leaders to ensure Kerala Students Union polls on time
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The KSU elections will be held on time as decided by the AICC leadership, it is learnt. NSUI president Amrita Dhawan and AICC secretary in charge of NSUI Girish Chodankar will be here on Wednesday to decide on the elections. Incidentally, Congress leaders Oommen Chandy, KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran and Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala have given a letter to the AICC leadership seeking more time for the party revamp.
Mr Sudheeran has also called a meeting of the party's high-power Political Affairs Committee in connection with the visit of the national leaders. Mr Chandy and Mr Chennithala were keen on postponing the KSU elections as well as the party revamp. Later, Mr Sudheeran also joined them but the AICC leadership warned them not to create factionalism. “The central leadership is likely to decide on the mode of the KSU elections. The main demand is that the existing online membership should be stopped. The elections have to be held as per the constitution of KSU as NSUI has a different system,” said a KPCC general secretary and PAC member.
Most of the Congress leaders want that more students must be included as the online membership campaign is not effective. The PAC will also discuss the issues regarding Industries Minister E. P. Jayarajan and the self-financing colleges. AICC secretary in charge of the state, Dipak Babaria, is also likely to attend the meetings of the KSU election coordination committee and the PAC on Wednesday.
