Kollam: Pictures of former Chief Minister Mr. Oommen Chandy travelling by a sleeper class compartment of a train has gone viral on the social media. Over 7,500 persons liked the pictures of Mr Chandy that were posted on Monday evening and nearly 4000 shared till Tuesday evening. Facebook users hailed him as leader of “aam aadmi” showering praises for his simplicity. However, some termed it as political gimmick.
Mr. Chandy boarded S-13 coach of Sabari Express from Kottayam to Thiruvananthapuram on Monday evening, according the post by a politician, Asif Kunnath. Reacting to the Facebook post, the former chief minister told a national news channel that he always preferred travelling by sleeper class to mingle with the people.
Chandy who refused to take up any party or parliamentary position and chose to remain an ordinary MLA representing Puthupally, told media soon after UDF’s defeat that he would maintain his connect with the people, travelling by bus and train across the state and taking up their issues.
