Officials taking voter ID card and denying schemes: Congress

HYDERABAD: The state Congress on Monday said the officials in charge of selecting beneficiaries for the Gruha Lakshmi and Dalit Bandhu schemes insisted on the applicants submitting their voter ID cards. Those who failed to comply were not getting the benefits, it said in a complaint to Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj on Monday.

Those who gave the representation include TPCC vice-president G. Niranjan and P. Rajesh Kumar, convener, of the election committee. They pointed out that the guidelines did not make the voter ID card mandatory.

The letter said: “The MLAs are denying the benefit of the Dalit Bandhu scheme to beneficiaries as they don’t have voter ID cards. The BRS is collecting the list of beneficiaries to influence their voting pattern.”
