Gutta Sukhender Reddy new council chairman
Hyderabad: The members of Telangana Legislative Council on Wednesday unanimously elected Gutha Sukhender Reddy as Council Chairman.
After the formal declaration from Deputy Chairman N. Vidyasagar that Mr Sukhender Reddy was elected unopposed, he was escorted to the chair by ministers V. Prashanth Reddy, K.T. Rama Rao, T. Harish Rao, Jagadish Reddy, Srinivas Yadav, Mahmood Ali, Satyavathi Rathod, Sabitha Indra Reddy and Congress member T. Jeevan Reddy, BJP member N. Ramachandra Rao and MIM member Syed Amin Jaffri.
After Mr Sukhender Reddy took charge, the ministers and members addressed the Council and recalled their association with the new chairman who has been in politics since the past four decades.
Mr Rama Rao remembered the efforts of Mr Sukhender Reddy in putting pressure on ruling governments for succour to fluoride victims of Nalgonda district.
Mr Harish Rao remembered the support extended by Mr Sukhender Reddy to the Telangana agitation.
The other speakers said that Mr Sukhender Reddy rose from the grassroots as a politician, beginning his career as a ward member of the Gram Panchayat and making his way to the Lok Sabha in the past four decades.
In his thanksgiving address, Mr Sukhender Reddy assured the House that he will discharge his duties as the Chairman judiciously.
He thanked the members, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and the opposition for electing him unanimously.
Maintaining that the chairman has responsibilities included conducting the proceedings of the house without, Mr Sukhender Reddy said that he would try his best to run the House properly.
