Chennai: Even while supporters of AIADMK deputy general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran started issuing open threats to bring down Edappadi K. Palaniswami government, DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Friday said the DMK would move a no confidence motion against the state government ‘if necessary’, indicating that the DMK is waiting for the most opportune moment to bring such a motion.
Stalin’s comments came after a meeting of party’s district secretaries to take stock of the political turmoil in the AIADMK after the faction headed by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami passed a resolution declaring that the appointment of AIADMK (Amma) deputy general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran is illegal.
The DMK leader Stalin said an extraordinary political situation is prevailing in the state since the AIADMK split into three factions headed by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and Dhinakaran.
The people are suffering in such a situation, he said added that a good solution should be certainly found.
It is said Stalin elicited the opinion of district secretaries on the right time to push for a no confidence motion and asked if such a move would be fruitful. The DMK functionaries expressed their opinion on whether the ongoing tussle had reached a flash point and if Dhinakaran is ready to topple the government.
In his latest media briefing, Dhinakaran, answering a specific question if the MLAs supporting him would support the government if the DMK moved a no confidence motion, did not rule out the possibility of supporting such a motion. He merely said a decision would be taken when a motion is introduced.
Besides, Thanga Thamizhselvan, a strong supporter of Dhinakaran had openly warned that the government would surely fall if his faction did not support party’s general secretary V.K. Sasikala and deputy general secretary Dhinakaran, raising the hopes of DMK.
He also claimed that Dhinakaran had the support of 37 MLAs. However, only 19 MLAs had openly expressed support to Dhinakaran after the declaration of Palaniswami faction to invalidate Dhinakaran’s appointment. Even if Panneerselvam’s faction merged with the parent body and supported the government, 19 MLAs would be sufficient to bring down the government, if they voted against the motion.
