All-party delegation meets Telangana DGP

They requested the director-general of police to order an enquiry and provide protection to the victims and their family members.

Hyderabad: An all-party delegation comprising leaders from the Telugu Desam, Congress and the CPI, has requested the director-general of police to register a case under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against Sircilla Rajanna district superintendent of police and others who tortured the Dalits in Nerella.

Revanth Reddy (TD), Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka (Congress) and Chada Venkata Reddy (CPI) met the director-general of police on Friday and submitted a memorandum on the Nerella incident.

They requested the director-general of police to order an enquiry and provide protection to the victims and their family members.

So far, no case has been filed against the sand contractors for the deaths in the Nerella incident and no enquiry has been ordered by the government to find out the police brutalities. Besides, no case has been registered under the SC/ST Act against the superintendent of police and other police officials who have committed the offence, the delegation noted.

The delegation alleged that superintendent of police Vishwajit Kampati and his subordinates subjected the victims to severe third-degree torture methods by beating them indiscriminately and by pouring hot water on their private parts.

The police also tortured them with electric shocks and administered sedatives continuously for four days. The police also asked the victims to refrain from making these atrocities public.

Meanwhile, former Congress MP V. Hanumantha Rao also asked the state government to take action against Sircilla Rajanna district police superintendent in connection with the Nerella incident.
