BRS, AIMIM deceiving people on Metro Rail project in Old City: Congress

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad District Congress Committee (DCC) president Sameer Waliullah strongly criticised the BRS government and the AIMIM for “deceiving” the residents of the Old City with false promises of Metro Rail connectivity. He accused the Chandrashekar Rao government of removing the Old City corridor from the Metro Rail map.

He said in a media statement that the government had allocated ₹500 crore in the budgets of 2022-23 and 2023-24 for the Metro Rail project in the Old City of which ₹100 crore was earmarked for road expansion and property acquisition. He said the

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) had reportedly completed the underground utilities survey and mapping for the Old City stretch in December 2022 but no work had commenced.

The Congress leader also questioned Minister K.T. Rama Rao’s tweet, that the Chief Minster had given the go-ahead to the Metro Rail project, and wondered why he needed to instruct the municipal administration department to proceed with the project. Waliullah said that AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi and retweeted Rama Rao's post; instead he should have condemned the BRS government for the delay in the project.
