YSRC sets sight on legality of TD party office in Guntur

Subsequently, TD allegedly encroached an adjoining plot of 1,600 sq. yd. and now wants the lease to cover this plot as well.

Vijayawada: After razing the Praja Vedika that was found to be illegal, the YSR Congress has now set its sights on the Telugu Desam state party office at Guntur and is pressing for an inquiry on its legal status.

The TD took 1,000 sq. yd. Poramboke land at Pichukulagunta near Arundelpet on lease for 30 years. The party constructed G+1 structure in the leased land obtaining approval in 2009 from the municipal authorities.

Subsequently, TD allegedly encroached an adjoining plot of 1,600 sq. yd. and now wants the lease to cover this plot as well.

Subsequently, TD encroached upon nearly 1,600 square yards and constructed a compound wall and was using the remaining land for parking of vehicles.

In 2017, the TD submitted an application form in the town planning wing of the Guntur municipal corporation seeking regularisation of encroached land along with the leased out land for a total of 2,600 sq. yards and wanted the whole parcel of land for a lease period of 99 years.

However, the state government asked for remarks from the municipal commissioner on the file but no remarks were given and the file has been kept in abeyance since then. The TD stopped paying lease amount since 2017 and the outstanding dues are pegged at Rs 5 to Rs 6 lakh at present.

The lease period for the 1,000 square yard site where the party building was constructed, reportedly got renewed up to 2033 but the party had no legal sanctity to possess 1,600 square yards site even today.

Ironically, though the town planning authorities claim that the TD party building built on 1,000 square yard area had an approval given in 2009, no file is available at present except the file number 824/2009 that keeps popping up on the data page of assets in the computers at the municipal corporation office. The civic authorities have started searching for the hard copy of the file following the recent development where the search is on to find whether the TD property is legal or illegal.

GMC commissioner Srikesh Lathkar said, “We have received a representation from YSR Congress leaders seeking details on TD party state office and I have asked town planning officials to verify records and submit a report soon. Once the report is submitted, we will initiate necessary action as per norms in case of any illegalities found.”
