Session today, may be adjourned after obituaries

Sources in the party said Chief Minister, H.D. Kumaraswamy with the backing of the Congress is exploring two options.

Bengaluru: The Congress-JD (S) coalition is exploring various options to protect the H.D. Kumaraswamy government and ensure the dissident MLAs do not have their way after the Assembly session begins on Friday.

Sources in the party said Chief Minister, H.D. Kumaraswamy with the backing of the Congress is exploring two options. On Friday, the first day of the session, the plan is make sure only obituary references are made and thereafter, the session may be adjourned till Monday. The other option is to pass the finance bill and get the House adjourned immediately after the obituary references. Sources said that there is a rare possibility of this option being exercised.

On Monday, the ruling coalition expects the BJP to resort to a dharna when Chief Minister, H.D. Kumaraswamy may move a confidence motion which would compel the dissidents to attend the session and support the government failing which they may face the threat of disqualification.

However, one section in the party has reportedly suggested that since the dissidents have already approached the Supreme Court, it would be difficult for the ruling parties to get them disqualified in this manner. So, even though the ruling coalition may try to coax the Speaker to disqualify the dissident members, he may be cautious while taking a decision in this regard, sources said.
