BJP seniors back Bandi, says no change of president

HYDERABAD: Senior leaders of the BJP, after a brainstorming session over the news of an impending change in state leadership on Sunday, hit back strongly at media reports and alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao was “trying to demoralise our cadre and party by creating confusion and planting fake narratives” about a change in BJP state president.

BJP leaders Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, Vijayashanthi, Boora Narsaiah Goud, Vijayarama Rao, C.H. Vittal, Garikipati Mohan Rao, Ravinder Naik and other leaders met at the senior leader and former MP A.P. Jithender Reddy’s residence and discussed issues related to the party and the state.

Afterwards, speaking to the media, the leaders said in a statement, “Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao is rattled by the BJP and is therefore resorting to his usual tricks of trying to spread confusion. Media leaks are being planted to suggest we will be changing our leader, which is not the case, nor is this the procedure we follow. Media should be careful when publishing reports and after checking their veracity.”

Without naming any leader in their own party, the leaders also reminded their own of the BJP’s values, saying, “We are a disciplined party and don’t elevate people to random posts just because anyone is demanding it. We must all work hard to use the situation in the state, work unitedly and with focus to come to power.”

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Vittal and Jithender Reddy said, “There is a procedure to change or appoint a new president in the BJP. We urge all our leaders and cadre not to be confused over the issue of change of state party president. It won’t happen and we will fight the elections under the leadership of Bandi Sanjay.”

If BJP high command wanted to change the state party president, it will ascertain the views of the party from the grassroots level and all senior leaders before making an announcement, they said.

Even as the party is busy doing the Jan Sampark Abhiyan outreach in Telangana, and holding a speedy membership drive from village to the state level, a section of the media is creating false propaganda at the behest of the ruling party, they alleged.

“KCR is trying to create confusion among opposition parties for political benefits,” Jithender Reddy said. “The BJP is gaining strength in Telangana as proven in the GHMC elections, and byelections of Dubbak, Huzurabad and Munugode. The BJP will defeat the unpopular BRS government in the coming elections.”

Jithender Reddy predicted an alliance between the Congress and the BRS for the coming Assembly elections, whereas the BJP will fight it alone, he said.

“We have decided to launch a campaign to expose all false propaganda against the BJP and tell people the truth,” he said.

“BJP is a party of ideology and discipline. What ideology do the BRS or Congress have?” Vittal asked.

Vishweshar Reddy said that it was sad that the media was speaking lies to help the BRS and trying to damage the prospects of the BJP. “Where is the question of BJP losing steam or popularity? The BRS is losing face and people have decided to punish it. The Congress has no credibility. Only the BJP can face, fight and defeat the KCR government,” the former MP said.
