Link road to be formed in Chennai's extended area
Chennai: The State government will form a link road in Chennai extended Corporation area at a cost of Rs 30 crore, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami told the Assembly on Monday.
Winding up the discussion on the demand for grants to the PWD (Irrigation) and Highways departments in the Assembly, the CM said the link road connects Greenways Road and Durgabai Deshmukh Road via Music College for a distance of 650 meters. He also announced a slew of projects including construction of flyover and foot over bridge (FOB) in Chennai and Tiruppur. “This would decongest the cities. The detailed project reports would be prepared at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore,” Mr. Palaniswami informed.
Also, about Rs 638.50 crore would be spent to improve the panchayat union roads and to construct 188 bridges across the State with financial assistance from Nabard. Apart from announcing to upgrade the panchayat and panchayat union roads for Rs 800 crore, he said the Humayun Mahal would be renovated at a cost of Rs 38 lakhs. The 246-year-old Humayun Mahal, which is part of the Chepauk complex, here, had caught fire in 2014. The heritage structure is part of the Directorate of Agriculture office.
On the cards is the Chennai-Kanyakumari industrial corridor project. This centrally sponsored project, aims to cover 13 coastal districts, besides 10 interior districts connecting NH 7 and NH 45, linking the north and southern parts of the State. The Asian Development Bank has prepared a comprehensive development plan for CKIC addressing the development plan for various sectors, a policy note on Highways and Minor Ports, tabled in the Assembly by the CM, said.
