Kapu leaders arrested as preventive measure in Visakhapatnam

Hundreds of Kapu activists and followers thronged police stations in the city and asked the police to voluntarily arrest them.

Visakhapatnam: Eighteen Kapu leaders of Visakhapatnam, including district Kapunadu President, Thota Rajeev, were arrested as preventive measure on Saturday amid rising tensions following the arrest of Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham.

The police had earlier arrested YSRC District President, Gudivada Amarnath, while he was on his way to express solidarity with Mudragada and transferred him to Korukonda police station in East Godavari.

With the arrest of their leaders, hundreds of Kapu activists and followers thronged police stations in the city and asked the police to voluntarily arrest them.
Speaking to DC, Thota Rajeev, commented that the TD government is trying to suppress the Kapu movement and is resorting to unlawful arrests of leaders.

“The arrests cannot undermine the movement. We are asking the government to fulfil legitimate demands. But the TD government seems more vicious than the British Raj. We will soon storm the houses of ministers and MLAs of the district, starting with HRD minister, Ganta Srinivasa Rao,” he added.

YSRC District President, Gudivada Amarnath, said that the government is throttling the voices of Kapu leaders by arresting them.
