Johnny Nellore says CM Pinarayi Vijayan stand will weaken dam plan

Mr Nellore said that the stand taken by Mr Vijayan will strengthen the stand of Tamil Nadu that the dam does not lack strength.

Kottayam: The statement of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on the Mullaperiyar dam issue will weaken the argument of the state in the Supreme Court that the dam lacks strength, Kerala Congress (Jacob) chairman, Johnny Nellore said. Speaking to reporters at Kottayam, Mr Nellore said that the stand taken by Mr Vijayan will strengthen the stand of Tamil Nadu that the dam does not lack strength.

“It is welcome to have a consensus with Tamil Nadu. We will not move back from the stand that a new dam should be constructed,” he told reporters at Kottayam. He was responding to the statement of CM that Kerala should move forward by new studies dispelling concern over the safety of the dam. It was not proper from the part of the CM who rejected the demand of the (UDF) that an all party meeting should be constituted to discuss the issue, he added.

“The government should be willing to constitute an all party meeting thereby also including the Athirapally issue”, he said. Earlier in the high power committee meeting of the KC(J), stringent criticisms were raised against the statements of KPCC President VM Sudheeran and Vice President VD Satheeshan.

The high power committee meeting contended that the statements of the two leaders against the (UDF) government increased the momentum of the defeat of the (UDF). KC (J) Chairman Johny Nelloore, Anoop Jacob, Daisy Jacob among other party leaders was present for the high power committee meeting.
