Rivals full of confidence as MP K Kavitha expects record win

Congress candidate and two-term MP Madhu Goud Yashki pins hopes on cross-voting to win the seat.

NIZAMABAD: As the day for counting of votes nears, the TRS, BJP and Congress candidates in the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency and their followers are busy analysing their winning chances. TRS candidate and sitting MP K. Kavitha is confident of retaining the seat with a record majority.

BJP candidate and heir of senior politician D. Srinivas, Dharmapuri Arvind is also hopeful of winning the elections comfortably.

The BJP Central and state leadership is also confidant of winning the Nizamabad MP seat. Congress candidate and two-term MP Madhu Goud Yashki believes that many would have voted silently in favour of the grand old party.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, TRS candidate Kavitha won by a margin of 1, 67,184 votes against Congress candidate Madhu Goud Yashki, who got 2,72,123 votes. TRS MLAs and key leaders assured Kavitha that this time they would get more than 4 lakh majority in the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency.

According to the TRS leadership, the BJP has never been a serious threat to the party as they do not have the support of the voters and the required cadre in the district and according to them the Congress is not in a position to give them a tough fight. However, the political equations changed for the TRS, when turmeric farmers begun the negative campaign in the constituency.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, TRS campaign manager, Sumanth, said, “Kavitha will get around 3 lakh majority. Beneficiaries of various schemes and Muslims have voted for the TRS. The BJP is limited to only certain urban pockets. The Congress is the only nearest rival to the TRS.”
