Tirupati: Telugu Desam activists reportedly attacked the convoy of Bharatiya Janata Party national president Amit Shah on his way to Ramachandrapuram Ashramam from Tirumala on Friday, apparently in protest against the Centre’s refusal to confer Special Category Status on Andhra Pradesh.

Tension prevailed at Alipiri in Tirupati when TD workers staged a demonstration against Mr Shah as he was proceeding to Renigunta airport from Tirumala hills and in the melee a stone was allegedly hurled at one of the vehicles in his convoy.

According to a media report, Amit Shah had gone with his family to visit Tirumala when Telugu Desam cadres also raised slogans against the BJP chief, chanting ‘Go back, Amit Shah’.
