Kerala Assembly polls: UDF panel eyes 77-82 seats, yet another term
Thiruvananthapuram: The UDF is hoping to return to power with 77-82 seats by making inroads into a few LDF strongholds and checkmating the BJP’s dream of opening an account in the Assembly.
A meeting of the UDF election coordination committee held at KPCC office felt that it was ahead in campaigning and that Kollam and Kozhikode districts would favour the UDF this time.
Mr Punalur Madhu, chairman of UDF election committee, said that party president Sonia Gandhi had electrified the polling scene with her visit and speeches.
“Even if the UDF loses a few of its sitting seats, it will wrest 15-odd seats from the LDF. The BJP has no chance to open an account in spite of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visits and the party spending crores of rupees for campaigning,” said Mr Punalur Madhu.
The UDF had enlisted a professional agency to evaluate the campaign in each constituency. The agency, which completed two stages of work, has given its report to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
The meeting decided to concentrate on constituencies where the UDF is lagging behind and step up the social media campaign. The election coordination committee will meet twice a day from now on.
Campaign vehicles with LED monitors showing the videos of UDF’s development schemes would be exhibited in all the major centres across the state. UDF leaders expressed satisfaction over the print, radio, television and theatre ad campaigns. Apart from Mr Punalur Madhu, there are nine other UDF leaders in the election committee, including UDF convener P. P. Thankachan.
