Jayalalithaa storms Chennai with plea for continuance of rule

She covered all the 16 seats of the city on a single day and addressed the people from her campaign vehicle.

Chennai: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, who stormed the capital city on Wednesday, appealed to people to vote for her party for continuance of the good times brought by her government and to maintain the state as a haven of peace.

She sought votes for the 16 AIADMK candidates so that poor people continue to get uplifted. The AIADMK government had brought good times for Tamil Nadu, she said and asked people to make the AIADMK candidates win by a huge margin.

People, especially women were lined up on both sides of the roads wherever the Chief Minister went. Although, the campaign schedule was announced on Wednesday morning, people gathered in a short time to hear her in all the venues.

The Chief Minister started from Radhakrishnan road and went through Anna Salai, Egmore, Basin Bridge, MKB Nagar, Ayanavaram, Thirumangalam, Koyambedu, T. Nagar, Saidapet, Guindy, Adyar, Mylapore and Alwarpet.

From Poes Garden to R.K. Nagar, she stopped her vehicle at about 20 points where partymen gathered from the morning. At all the spots, shamianas were erected for local candidates and party functionaries who greeted the party leader on her arrival. Cultural programmes, party songs, playing of trumpets, drums, besides dance shows kept the people entertained till the arrival of the AIADMK supremo.

Jayalalithaa will campaign in 10 constituencies of Tirunelveli district on Thursday.
The Chief Minister’s sudden election campaign in the capital comes amidst claims by DMK leaders that their party would sweep the polls in the city in the coming Assembly elections.
