BJP won't open account: PK Kunhalikutty
Malappuram: “The CPM cannot hope to make a dent in Malappuram by fielding a group of multi-millionaires against IUML”, says Mr. P.K. Kunhalikutty, the leader of Indian Union Muslim League. Speaking to DC at his residence in Karathode on the Vengara-Malappuram state highway, Mr. Kunhalikutty, known as the most powerful IUML leader, shared his thoughts about the assembly polls in the state.
There is a perception that a political upset may take place in a few constituencies in Malappuram, te citadel of IUML. What is your view?
Absolutely baseless. It is true that CPM has managed to field a few multi-millionaires against us in the district. But, that alone is not sufficient to win the elections. We are going to better our performance compared with the last elections.
BJP and BDJS are making claims that they will be a major force in the coming polls. What is your view?
BJP and RSS are always good at such murmur campaigns. But, I am sure that BJP will not open account in the elections. The people of Kerala with strong secular credentials will not be fooled by the high-pitched campaign by the BJP.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy projecting BJP as the main enemy of UDF has been criticised by many as part of strategic deal between Congress and BJP. What is the view of IUML?
IUML has been talking about the specific situation in Manjeswaram and Kasargode. For many years the fight is between UDF and BJP in these constituencies. The CPM or LDF is a distant third in these places. I think Mr. Chandy also spoke about the same situation. Otherwise there is no confusion on this issue.
On chances of UDF coming back to power?
There is no doubt about that. The UDF is coming back to power.
