Assembly no place for killers, fraudsters: CM Oommen Chandy
Thiruvananthapuram: A day after he lashed out against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his controversial ‘Somalia’ statement, Chief Minister Chandy has said that legislative Assembly is no place for job fraudsters and killers.
In a statement here, Mr Chandy said affidavits submitted to the Election Commission have shown that CPM and BJP have fielded candidates “who faced charges ranging from murder to job fraud to Taliban model-killing.” Of the 943 candidates who face criminal cases, 685 belong to the LDF; of them, 67 have 617 cases pending against them. The NDA candidates face a total of 152,” he said.
Mr Chandy said CPM’s Aruvikkara candidate A.A. Rashid is the third accused in the Kerala University assistant grade appointment scam while T V Rajesh (Kalyassery) is the 33rd accused in the Ariyil Shukoor murder case “which reminded one of the Taliban-type murder.”
Mr Chandy listed the names of CPM candidates Benoy Kurian (Peravoor), James Mathew (Taliparamba), M.M. Mani (Udumbanchola) apart from Opposition leader V.S. Achuthanandan and politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan as facing criminal cases.
BJP candidate in Parasala Jayachandran Nair (Karamana Jayan) has been convicted for murdering two DYFI activists in 1990. B.B. Gopa Kumar (Chathanoor) Bheeman Raghu (Pathanapuram) and Sivadasan Pillai (Chadayamangalam) also face criminal cases, he said.
