Thiruvananthapuram: Congress top guns get local apathy

The Congress high command has sent its representatives to know the ground reality.

Thiruvananthapuram: Discordant notes have appeared in the Congress campaign for three candidates — Shashi Tharoor, K. Muraleedharan and Rajmohan Unnithan —forcing them to complain to the AICC over the indifference shown by the local leaders.

Moreover, local leaders in Palakkad have alleged that candidate V. K. Sreekandan is going his own way.

Group leaders, AICC general secretary Oommen Chandy and Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala, and KPCC president Mullapally have no role in this.

The AICC has taken it seriously and two top leaders who were camping in Wayanad rushed to Thiruvananthapuram to address the issue.

The Congress high command has sent its representatives to know the ground reality.

A senior Congress leader told this newspaper that damage control measures were on as out of 1,305 booth committees, 250 were dysfunctional in Thiruvan-anthapuram seat.

“Each leader would be assigned responsibilities like liaising with the different community leaders. But this time that has not happened at least in Thiruvananth-apuram. A local MLA and a KPCC general secretary have been playing spoilsport forcing AICC leaders and Mullapally to warn them,” he said.

On Thursday when CWC member A. K. Antony came to Pala to attend the funeral of K.M. Mani, he urged the leaders to focus especially on Thiruvanantha-puram.

Lack of funds is also bothering Muraleedharan in Vadakara.

A KPCC general secretary told this newspaper that 25 mandalam presidents in the constituency have not been provided the assigned `5,000. Mr Mullapally has been monitoring the campaign at Vadakara.

A war room has been set up in Palakkad equipped with state-of-the-art in-house production unit and a social media team.

Though the initial discord amidst the Kasaragod DCC was settled, Mr Rajmohan Unnithan has not been getting the wholehearted support of his party colleagues.
