Massive LDF roadshow in Wayanad to counter Rahul Gandhi

An array of leaders, including CPM’s star campaigner Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, participated in the rally.

Kalpetta: The LDF turned the town red with a massive roadshow on Thursday in support of its candidate P.P. Suneer and as a challenge to the roadshow taken out by the UDF when Congress president Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination the other day.

An array of leaders, including CPM’s star campaigner Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, participated in the rally. There was a steady flow of workers to the town from the morning. Those who attended it included ministers M.M. Mani, K.K. Shylaja, V.S. Sunilkumar and Rama-chandran Kadannappalli.

Prominent farmers’ leaders who organised the agrarian agitations in North India are expected to attend various programmes in the constituency to expose the Congress policies which impoverished the agrarian sector, the LDF said in a press statement.

All-India Kissan Sabaha leader Ashok Dhawle, who led the Long March of farmers in Maharashtra, would attend first farmers’ meet at Pulppalli in Sulthan Bathery legislative constituency on Friday. Later another farmers’ meet will be held in Nilambur.

CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury will address a series of programmes in Wayanad on April 18.

The Kissan Sabha has also plans to conduct a symbolic long march of farmers in Wayanad.

The UDF plans to bring Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi for a second round on April 17 or April 18, according to UDF leaders. The programme would be organised in Nilambur, the other end of the Lok Sabha constituency in Malappuram district.

CPI general secretary Sudhakar Reddy had participated in various LDF programmes this week.

The NDA will bring BJP national president Amit Shah to campaign for BDJS leader Tushar Vellappalli at Sulthan Bathery next week. It will also conduct a campaign by the women of Amethi in Wayanad to highlight the poor performance of Rahul Gandhi as its MP and the failure of Nehru family to develop the constituency for decades.
